Box Culverts

Culvert lengths are 6.0m & 3.0m with lid joints offset to culvert joints for strength.

Two sizes are currently available:

  • Code BC75 - 1.0m wide x 0.6m deep with a flow of 75 ML/day

  • Code BC135 - 1.0m wide x 0.9m deep with a flow of 135 ML/day. Dropboxes, Headwalls, Overflow Escapes and Bubblers can be used in conjunction with our Box Culverts.

The advantages of using Box Culverts over round pipes are:

  1. Box Culverts run a greater volume of water at a lower head because of their flatter profile.

  2. Because the Box Culvert floor is installed at a channel bed level they are less likely to silt up ensuring greater flow capabilities.

  3. The water velocity is reduced thus reducing scouring.

  4. Installation is quick because the base is flat and the backfill is compacted against a vertical face.

  5. Section lengths are 6.0m & 3.0m for quicker installation.

  6. Transport is quicker because of length & flat base.

  7. Two thickness lids are available - one for backufill cover and one for zero cover which is ideal for low flow creek crossings.
